David also read the following poem written by his Dad regarding Autumn:
Autumn
Today a leaf fell from a tree
And drifted gently to the ground,
Its color, which had once been green
Had changed to crimson, gold and brown.
How truly short the time has been
Since once again this grand old tree
Returned from sleep to spread its green
For every passing man to see.
It seems almost like yesterday
When flowers of the spring broke through
To shine in splendor for us all
Beneath the early morning dew.
Alas, how quickly time has passed,
Quite like a race that’s almost run,
Those things that we had hoped to do
Must surely now remain undone.
Yet autumn is the loveliest
Of all the times of year.
The geese and all migrating birds
Just seem to know that winter’s near.
The squirrel is gathering hickory nuts,
In fact, he’s almost through,
He’s all prepared for winter,
But say, my friend, are you?
